Baltimore Orioles vs Cleveland Indians
Cleveland Stadium. Cleveland, Ohio

The Orioles pound out 14 hits and score 13 runs in a rout of the Indians 13-2 before 10,721 at Cleveland Stadium.

The Orioles were led by Cal Ripken, Eddie Murray and John Lowenstein. The three combined to go 8-14 with 8 runs scored and RBIs.

Dennis Martinez (1-1) pitched 8 innings allowing 4 hits but walked 6. He yielded two earned runs, both in the first inning.

The Orioles tagged Larry Sorensen, the Indians starter, for 8 hits and 7 runs in 2.2 innings.

Side notes: Eddie Murray had a two run homer in the 8th inning. His first of the year.
John Lowenstein had a double and triple in the game.
Joe Nolan and T-Bone Shelby both drove in two runs.
The Orioles walked 8 Indians in the game.
George Vukovich drove in the only runs for Cleveland.

Baltimore Orioles vs Chicago White Sox

Once again the Orioles pounded out 14 hits in a win over the White Sox 10-8. Storm Davis and Sammy Stewart (1-1) combined to go 7 innings in relief, allowing only two runs on six hits. The White Sox treated Oriole starter Mike Flanagan like a rented mule. He gave up 6 runs on 6 hits in 2 plus innings.

The scoring came early in this game. The White Sox started, Floyd Bannister, gave up 7 runs on 7 hits in 1.2 innings. The game was tied 7-7 after three innings. The Orioles scored three runs in the 7th inning to take the lead for good. Dennis Lamp (1-1) took the loss in relief.

Side notes: Both Gary Roenicke (3-run job) and T-Bone Shelby (solo) hit HR's.
Ripken, Murray, Shelby and Ken Singleton each had multi-hit game.
Rick Dempsey stole a base, as did Bumbry and Shelby.
Ron Kittle, Tony Bernazard and Tom Paciorek each went deep.
Harold Baines went 1-4 with a RBI.
Dempsey drove in 2 and Roenicke had 3 RBIs.
