After returning from an eight game west coast trip, the Orioles came home to face the same west coast teams for eight more games. The Birds went 4-4 on the road trip. Here is a look-back at first two games against the Angels.

Cal Ripken smacked a two-run homer off of Angles' starter Geoff Zaun (3-2) in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie for the winning hit in a 4-2 victory.

Mike Flanagan(4-0) pitched another complete game. This time he gave up 7 hits and one walk while striking out 8.

Inside the Box

Cal Ripken hit his third homer on the season and had his seventh double.

Doug DeCinces ( CAL ) went 2-4 with 2 RBI

Dan Ford 2-3 R, RBI, SB

In a slug-fest that featured 24 runs scored and 31 hits, the Angels got the best of four Oriole pitchers and clubbed them to the tone of 16 runs and 18 hits in a 16-8 defeat in front of 17,448.

The Angels scored 2 in the first, 3 in the fourth, 2 in the fifth, 3 in the sixth, 2 in the seventh and 4 in the ninth. OUCH!!!

Scott McGregor (3-1) was torched for seven runs (5 ER) and eight hits. Sammy Stewart gave up 3 runs, Stoddard gave up 2 runs and Tippy gave up the other 4 runs.

Wow, only 17,000 in attendance for the second game. It seemed to me that the house was almost always full back in those days. I guess my recollection on that is wrong.
