Jake Fox...June 22, 2010 - 12:50 p.m.
Orioles acquired 1B Jake Fox from the Athletics for RHP Ross Wolf.
Don't know how I missed this one. I like it, a lot.
Well that's 1B and our cleanup hitter for next season. Yea, it's that simple.
Need to get something definitive regarding Robert's condition so they know how to proceed. The reports to this point have been vague, recovery time-table keeps being pushed back, enough to arouse suspicion. To what extent they should pursue at replacement, a legit replacement, I don't know, they should but evidently they do not either.

June 26, 2010 - 5:27 p.m. Brian Roberts (back) has begun light baseball activities. Fantasy spin: "What that means, there's no description to it, but he just added very light (baseball activities)," interim manager Juan Samuel said Saturday. "That's what my report says." Roberts has been on the 60-day disabled list since April 10 and isn't expected to return until late July or early August. |
Maybe Moore or Lugo will suffice, if it looks like Roberts will be able to return with promising level of resilience.
Ding-a-ling, wake-up Andy!

July 2, 2010 - 11:55 p.m. Josh Bell isn't a lock to be sent to the minor leagues when Felix Pie returns from the disabled list. "I don't know actually what the situation is going to be," said Orioles interim manager Juan Samuel. "I think we're going to deal with that as we approach that day. I'm not sure." Orioles president Andy MacPhail suggested Thursday that Bell's first taste of the major leagues could be rather short, but Bell still has a few days to make an impression. The 23-year-old is 2-for-8 over his first two games in the bigs. He was the designated hitter against the Red Sox on Friday. |
I am satisfied with Bell at 3B. He should be playing every night. Unless this is a contract time-clock-running thing, makes no sense. Even if it is, it doesn't make sense anyway anymore. I disagree with AM if this is really his position. It might be a good time after a quarter century to think about winning and not securing a contract for an extra year that may be worthless or close to it, by the time it matters. Best case scenario, he will be worth a fortune and they are willing to give it to him. Chalk-up losing the a cheap year of service and the payroll increase to winning some baseball.
Not to disparage McPhail too much, he did get a Fox for a Wolf
Maybe not quite that funny, still a damn good deal.
Going into 2011 with Izturis at SS is fine with me.
Trading Block should include Wiggington, Tejada, Patterson, Pie, Scott, Guthrie and some other pitchers. Someone would have to "wow-me" or Millwood would be back.
There are probably more names that should be included in this list. If I can't think of them, trade them!
I like Jake Fox. He is the power in the middle we have missed for so long. Too long.
Can he get his average up? I don't know. Is there a reason not to let him try?
In know he struggled, sucked in Oakland. They didn't let him play either.
Here is a blip from about a year ago

June 16, 2009 - 5:38 p.m. Cubs recalled infielder/outfielder Jake Fox from Triple-A Iowa. Fantasy spin: Fox is hitting .409 with 17 homers(149 at-bats) and 53 RBI at Triple-A, but he still isn't likely to see many at-bats with the Cubs playing at Wrigley this week. However, he could have some value in NL-only leagues next week with the Cubs playing six consecutive games in AL parks beginning on Tuesday. |
Midst the despair, Adam is finally out-doing the Jones'.

June 30, 2010 - 10:32 p.m. Adam Jones went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's win over the Athletics. After coming out of the gates slow, Jones had a monster June. Over his last 26 games, he's hitting .320 with eight homers and 21 RBI. |
He is now .270-13-36. He should give us a great 2d half. The RBI should pickup now that Trembley is no longer around to use him as a lead-off hitter.

Like I said, whatever we can get.
I wish they'd quit shuttling Tillman back and forth and either leave him up in Baltimore or down in Norfolk for the rest of the season. I understand injuries are special circumstances, but they might want to consider leaving him be even in this instance.
Personally I'd rather they leave Tillman down the rest of the season until after September 1st. Let him get steady work without the shuffle, confidence, and look to see him in the rotation in 2011.
I'm fine with Hendrickson in the rotation for now.

I would let him get steady work in the majors. Why bother developing these "young arms" if you are not going to use them? We kept Penn protected from the reality of MLB hitters for what seemed like forever, to what avail, Robert Andino? (.235 in 350AB in Norfolk) Which was spun as "organizational depth". Then we put him on waivers in April, he cleared and was sent down, and we sign Lugo. Way to go!
Not that I believe they could have received a better return, I do not, my problem was time elapse before acting. The fact is Penn was not "rushed" or his confidence "crushed", he couldn't get past Triple A. He just wasn't as good as our guys wanted us to believe. I didn't buy it. It was a terrible waste of money and more importantly, time. A continuation of that policy is a path to failure.
If Tillman is not ready now, he will never be.
Against the 2nd ranked hitting team in the majors and one of the best hitter's parks, he did pretty well.
