Title: Andy MacPhail is a genius

Sluggo - July 20, 2010 07:02 PM (GMT)
He waits and waits to hire Showalter or Wedge.........says the barn is not on fire............Lou Piniella announces his retirement.........MacPhail has a fetish for ex-Cubs..............

You know where I'm going with this.

The barn's already burned to the ground.

McPhail needs to get off the pot, hire Buck, and let him bring his own staff in here to turn this ship around. We have the most frustrating ownership/front office...

Pinella is a jackass. Keep him very far from Baltimore.

I had the same thought Sluggo. I'd be happy with either one but as Jay said we have to move soon, so Buck ought to get the job before long. If we wait for Piniella it would be November before he took over.

This is my favorite quote of his entire little interview (stated after the barn not being on fire):

QUOTE
The players are doing a nice job for Juan.

Is he watching the same team we are? I was in Baltimore for the weekend and caught Saturday's game. While Saturday's game was better then Friday or Sunday, or Monday, this team looks barely watchable at times. They make bad errors on both sides of the ball.

When McPhail took over I was excited, but the longer he's around, the less I like him. I think he's been given a pass his entire time with the organization given the mess he inherited, but it's time to get things done.

I think Piniella needs a couple months off after his Chicago experience. Also, having suffered through Tampa Bay, would he want to participate in another AL East rebuilding process? I wouldn't mind Lou managing here, but he might!

I haven't given up on MacPhail. I think he has made some great trades and draft selections. I agree that the team appears listless for the most part and certainly not delivering for either Trembley or Samuels. They have been hard to watch this year, I am beginning to despair that I'll ever see another winning season.

Piniella made his retirement at the end of the season official. I think that rules him out for anything other than retirement. He would've been the buttkicker that Baltimore seems to want, but I don't think he has much of a reputation for working with inexperienced ballplayers.

I am wondering whether or not my 1 year old will live long enough to see a winning season.

Piniella would be nice, but it isn't going to happen. Be thankful if Showalter makes an appearance in orange and black.

Buck is the best guy for the job. He has a track record of rebuilding teams and making them a winner (until he wears out his welcome).

Aside from my personal detest for Lou Pinella, he just doesn't impress me. The Cubs have underachieved on his watch and all he does is continue to pretend he's Billy Martin. I don't see him as a good fit for a young team.

I can't say I am impressed with anyone on the list. The same names, fired, re-hired, retired. It wouldn't hurt to cull the minors for a manager. It looks like they will go with Buck, okay too. I don't think anyone in particular would get me to doing cartwheels.

McPhail, I have been very impressed with his moves, but disgusted by the lack of them. I would like to see him become decidedly more aggressive.

I don't think the future Commissioner of MLB, Andrew "Bud Lite" MacPhail will ever be aggressive.
