Orioles hangout. don't take that wrong, but it seems like a family of posters that have "hung out " for a while .. one plus is you don't have to pay to post.

how did it all begin ?

Skipjack - October 12, 2006 10:49 PM (GMT)
Long, long ago on a forum far, far away a small band of posters who called themselves the "Morning Crewe" left that forum for another place which allowed them to post as they saw fit without regard for relevancy or "being on topic."

A member of that group called Baghead found a place which at first met the needs of the flock and they went back to the "old board" and invited worthy posters there to join them. Well soon the new place wanted to put posts in a bunch of well-defined pigeon holes and that rankled the free Bird-Like spirits who had by now come to dominate that place.

Ben, "A Cloned Sheep," started a forum for the group which had expanded beyond the "Morning Crew" and it was called "The Birds of Prey." All went well for a year or so and then Ben wanted to change servers to make things better, he having forgot that "better is the enemy of good."

And so after a few week of nothingness D the Angel of Mercy took it upon herself to found this place and all of the Birds of Prey sounded the territorial call of the species and they came to flock together here. And so fledgling Dogg here we are...happy and snug in our new aerie.

it's true, there are a few posters who've hung out virtually for a long time now.
probably most met up at the MLB Os board, with or without previous Hangout credentials. then a couple more joined the flock a year or so ago, also at the MLB board. the OH lost its lustre and charging didn't help. i've never posted over there and speaking for myself, some of the restrictions seem unnecessary and i like freedom and paying to post just seems bizarre. but i digress. then the ice age came and it was determined that the Os MLB was kind of annoying and migration was in order. thus, the MLB board became known as the Board Which Shall Not Be Named. so, IIRC, there was a stint at another board that covered all baseball, but which also designated the Os hoard as a group. it was cozy for a while and the Os gathered there provided the dominant content through palmeiro's ascent and descent. to be fair, it was a really new site though. however, some admin issues arose and probably just the fact that it covered all baseball and some thought there was a promised land yet to be reached led to another migration. hmm, i'm thinking that was BoP I. but now i'm thinking i've forgotten some place. BoP disappeared one day. we thought it was being moved to another server. D. wrote an explanation of what she knows. aiki, who established and ran BoP I, has vanished for the time being, but i hear he's vowed to return. so D., enterprising as she is, set about to restore Order to the Universe and kindly set up these digs. hope that helps. :P others can probably fill in some details.

Wow, thanks for the insight . it has the feel of Star Wars . is anyone named Skywalker ?

Skipjack - October 12, 2006 11:55 PM (GMT)
Yes...Christian Kuhn, a German citizen, is Skywalker. He hasn't been around in a couple of months. I last saw him at Gettysburg in the spring. I'm sure D has contacted him about the new site. I think he frequents the OH along with another missing poster Mike, oryulz...or something like that.

Oh the Morning Crewe... Those were the days... I don't miss the trolls or BRobs Socks...

Jay, those were the days. I'll never forget Jack and the Swallow story.
Those early morning banters took on a life of their own generating envy and
resentment from many, but were always funny.
Bags has been aloof for quite some time but did drop in to BOP periodically.

i love OH because i spend all my time in the minors forum. i don't think i've even read their main forum but once in a blue moon, but i enjoy the prospect tracker, seeing as how i don't have a subscription to BA and have to rely on escambia posting a tidbit or two from there now and again ;)

and tony put one of my posts on the front page once. that was cool haha

but the guys here (and v and j) have this way of posting thoughtfully - not just to post, not just to hear themselves type. and i missed it immensely when it was gone.

May the force be with you- I'm back!

Well in a way we've gone through a lot. I mean I remember years ago when we all used to meet at the Orioles.com message board and than I think it was baseballcentral. Funny but also inspiring how through all those transitions the core of the group has stayed together.

Skipjack - October 28, 2006 06:03 PM (GMT)
I just noticed your post Skywalker. I am glad you are back with us too. The Force has been good to us.

Hey remember me? Ya'll mind if join this little party again?

dedwretched - November 5, 2006 02:51 AM (GMT)
i like OH bc of all of the trade rumors. a lot are really lame, but i like to read them. a few members supposedly know sources, so the info is great. though one source said there would be moves at the deadline this past july. look what happened.

though according to these guys, the FO is being tightlipped, which is both good and bad.

Well, I got lost surfing the web looking for sicko porn involving farm animals, members of the House Ways and Means Committee, and Cool Ranch Doritos. But I'm a bad typist. I don't even know how you play this "baseball" game. How many goals do you need to win, anyway?

Interesting story. I had just assumed we were all refugees and expatriates from the mlb.com site.
