i will leave this poll up for 1 month for everyone to get a chance to vote. i can't see who votes for what, so don't worry, i won't come after ya

i experimented by putting some posts in some of the lesser-viewed forums recently, and they were never viewed. roar is gonna be coming back here soon, but i dont know if he'll be updating that Dreams&Schemes forum or not. we don't have so many posts that they really *need* separation into multiple forums. (except for the ones that i want to stick around for long-term availability like the history one and the Cal Jr. one.)

the reason i separated em out is so that people dont get distracted with religious and political and cultural views on a board about baseball. i think it's valuable to keep that stuff just between those who care to discuss it. the other thing that ended up making the categories useful is the lack of a decent search capability on this server...searching inside one forum of a hundred topics is just easier than doing the same through a thousand. but if enough people say they want it to all be merged together, then i'll think about doing that.

maybe someone will suggest some other grouping that might work better as well.

of course, then i occasionally get the request to add a forum for some specific thing like the fantasy league, or even D&S. those were both created at someone's request.

i personally don't get why people don't look at all of the forums...maybe someone can explain why they only look at one or two and that will help me decide as well.

thanks for your inputs user posted image

i voted "keep it like it is."

but just a few, quick thoughts:

some sub-forums naturally need to be cycled...meaning, i wouldn't delete them, but i wouldn't leave 'em in perpetuity on the front page. ex.: Cal Ripken Jr. and the HOF.

that will eventually move to the Orioles Baseball forum, after the event passes and interest subsides, right? moving that...somewhere...at some time makes sense. i wouldn't have a separate forum titled "Archive(s)" in which to save it, either. same thing with the fantasy league '07. those forums have current interest and it's sensible that they each have their own niche.

i can see Dreams & Schemes expanding during the season, given its subtitle "perspectives from around the country" and depending on how the Os season plays out. more contributions from others here.

History of BoP...only a couple of posts there. does this board support sub-forums within sub-forums, so that when someone went into "Sub-forum A", for example, they could then see perhaps another Sub-forum, in addition to any particular threads? if so, then i might combine "history of BoP" and 'tech updates", having the "history" forum as a sub-forum of a more generally titled "BoP" forum...er, or something like that.

i wouldn't mind there being an Os History sub-forum. but not a reiteration of pivotal dates (that could be worked into the broader scheme). make it more about interesting stories and such. like, remember your calendar with players. well, something like that, but dedicated to Oriole players. then again, a thread concerning all those unique and cool and funny and etc. stories regardless of team would be nice, too. for example, i can't remember at the moment the manager from whom lou piniella borrowed the idea to reverse starting and relief pitcher roles.

sorry for the rapid ramblings. some of it <probably> makes sense. :P

okay, y'all win. 38 views and 5 votes means nobody really cares what i do :P

besides, i see the politics have infiltrated Orioles Baseball regardless of forum niches.

thanks, scuff, for your ideas. i'll check into subforums.
