Roberts goes 3 for 3 in rehab

Brian Roberts, 2B BAL
News: Injured Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts finally began a rehab assignment with the GCL Orioles on Monday night as he is trying to work his way back from a season-long back injury. Roberts started his rehab off with a bang as he went 3 for 3 as the second baseman and leadoff hitter, reports MASNSports.com. Roberts is expected to DH in Tuesday's game for the GCL Orioles and will join Double-A Bowie next week at some point.

As long as Patterson is extremely hot I hope Buck will let him retain the lead-off slot. Roberts should bat 2nd and get back to pinging doubles around parks and clearing the wall 12-15 times a season. Plus, Patterson can score from first on hits Brian places in RF.

Yeah, despite going 3 for 3 I'd still expect Roberts to need some time to get back his timing. That's assuming he stays pain free too. I wouldn't expect him in Baltimore for a couple weeks, and that's assuming he can stay pain free. Once he's up, batting 2nd in the order seems like an ideal spot for him.

I think the first half of this season confirms that the O's offense has revolved around Roberts for a long time now.

News: Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts could return from his three-month stay on the disabled list as soon as next weekend. He is expected to join Double-A Bowie on a rehabilitation assignment Monday, and if all goes well, Roberts will return to his customary spot atop the Baltimore lineup within a week. "He could," interim manager Juan Samuel said Saturday. "It depends on his games there (in Bowie). Anything can happen. He's anxious, he wants to be around, he wants to play."

He is a natural hitter. He will hit as long as like Dan says, he is pain free. I will add virtually.
I truly wish him well, aside from the O's.

Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts is ready to end his 14-week stay on the disabled list. Roberts has been sidelined since April 9, when he strained an abdominal muscle sliding into second base against Toronto. He's also been dealing with a herniated disk in his back, an injury that limited his participation in spring training. The two-time All-Star has been playing for Double-A Bowie in a rehabilitation assignment this week. On Thursday, Roberts declared himself fit to return to the Orioles. Speaking in the Baltimore clubhouse, Roberts said: "There's nothing I don't think I can do."

Interim manager Juan Samuel says the team will wait for the medical staff to clear Roberts before deciding whether to activate him from the DL. Roberts batted .483 in eight rehab games between Double-A and the rookie Gulf Coast League. The Orioles were hoping to avoid bringing Roberts off the DL until after a series in Toronto next week because they didn't feel his back would hold up on the turf.

I heard an interview with him yesterday on the Fan, and he sounded real excited about returning. They asked him about the turf in Toronto, and he didn't think it would be an issue because the turf in Rogers Centre (is that the current name of it?), is very soft, not like you're walking on carpeted concrete.

Roberts returning to the lineup should give the birds a lift, and hopefully help avoid 100 losses (which is still very likely).

Roberts to be activated and in the lineup tonight (per Orioles Insider):

QUOTE
This probably shouldn't come as a surprise, but the Orioles are leaning toward reinstating second baseman Brian Roberts from the 60-day disabled list and having him in the lineup tonight against the Minnesota Twins.

A final decision hasn't been made yet, and apparently won't be until Roberts reports to Camden Yards in a couple of hours. However, as I said above, that's currenty what the plan is though that could change. Roberts certainly has been pushing to return tonight and it appears that he'll get his wish.

Roberts' addition will likely prompt the team to designated infielder Scott Moore for assignment. That would open up both a 25-man and 40-man space for Roberts.
